[1999 entry by Jerry] Since my picture appears in the senior class section of the 1954 and the 1955 Silvertonian, I am fortunate to be invited to reunions for both years. I was supposed to graduate with the class of 1954, but all the foxy Silverton girls distracted me and I didn't study enough. Those were good old days.
Annet Smith was the girl who finally captured my heart and we got married in September of 1955. We have two sons, two daughters, 8 grand children and 2 great grand children.
Soon after high school, I worked as a truck driver for Silverfalls Trucking Company which was owned by Annet’s brother, Gid Smith. Owning and driving your own truck can be more profitable than driving for someone else, so I purchased my first truck in 1956. I worked my trucks with Gid’s company for several years. With numerous different trucks, I have hauled rocks, dirt and asphalt paving a couple of million miles while working with many different companies.
One of our sons has his own trucking company and runs 4 trucks. Trucking has been good for us.
I am still enjoying the trucking business after 45 years. We have lived in Silverton and Salem the whole time and haven’t traveled to see much of the country. Annet and I plan to retire In February of 2001 and travel to Arizona and other places around the country with our RV.
We are looking forward to our reunion. We hope to see you there.
Jerry
