2015 Entry:
Judy and I enjoyed meeting all of you (my old classmates) back in 2000 at our 45th Fox55 reunion. I can proudly say I recognized
most of you after 45 years, which is more a tribute to your aging proccesses than my memory. It helped that many of you contributed pictures and biographies for the Fox55 web site.
Since that time Judy retired from school nursing in 2005 and David retired from the University of Minnesota in 2011. (click on pictures below for larger images)
We have remained in Sunrise Minnesota on our 80 acre farm, and
since 2003 have been raising pure-bred Icelandic Sheep.
We sell breeding stock throughout the United States, some the product of artificial insemination using semen imported from Iceland.
We also sell raw Icelandic fleece and processed rovings to spinners throughout the world, including customers from coast-to-coast,
Canada, Australia, Japan and Israel (the latter three were quite a surprise).
At the ripe old age of 70, I learned to play upright bass from Mark Anderson (the bassist for Monroe Crossing) and now play regularly at nursing homes in a duo called "The SpinOffs". We play hits from the 1920's through the 1960's and a lot of gospel - anything with a 'beat'. I thank Mr. Dyrud our old band teacher for planting that seed.
2000 Entry:
Dave graduated (finally) from St. Olaf College in 1963. This was after a lot of fun Summers working for the Tommy Bartlett Water Ski Thrill Show in Wisconsin Dells,
six months in the Army, and a few years "fooling around" (GoFer for TV station, New Car Salesman for a day, Sales Trainee in a department store, and Salesman for Phillips 66 for two years).
He then got serious about learning, earning a Masters degree in Audiology in '68 and a Doctorate in Hearing Science in '70 from the University of Minnesota.
After two years of postdoctoral training at the University of Pittsburgh, he returned to the University of Minnesota and established the Clinical Psychoacoustics Laboratory, which carries out research on hearing problems and cochlear implants.
At St. Olaf college, Dave met his future wife Judy VanCamp from Austin, MN. They were married in June of 1962, and had a son, Brent, in 1965.
Besides working "all the time", Dave enjoy's flying his 1958 Cessna C175 to Northern Minnesota to relax in the family cabin at Lake Vermilion (even in the Winter). Dave and Judy dream about flying back to Silverton some day to visit, but there are a few obstacles in the way (like mountains!).
As he gets older, his thoughts return to his classmates of 1955. He welcomes communication with any who remember him.
